3 Easy SEO Tasks to Tick Off Your To-Do List

Getting started without expert help may sound daunting, but there are certain tasks you can accomplish on your own if you have five to ten minutes to spare. These tasks may not result in a significant jump in your search engine rankings, but if done consistently, they can help yield long-term results.

Install an SEO plugin.
Before we proceed, let’s define two terms first.
Page titles are the titles users see when your content is shown in search engines.
Meta descriptions are the brief descriptions underneath the page titles. They should summarise what the content is about and convince users to click on your website at the same time.
If you don’t add a meta description of your own, Google will most likely pull a snippet from your content. These snippets may fail to show users what your content is about and usually don’t include a call-to-action.
The plugins we mentioned before allow you to assign target keywords to specific pages and add page titles and meta descriptions. You don’t need to edit your website’s code or learn complicated SEO practices.
Yoast and All in One SEO Pack let you add information through an easy-to-understand editor.
If you’d like to add a plugin, go to your WordPress dashboard. Click on Plugins and select Add New. WordPress will then show you the most popular plugins. If you can’t see Yoast or All in One SEO Pack, click on the search bar and enter the name of the plugin you’d like to install. Click on Install Now and active the plugin.
Check Google Analytics.
Google Analytics is a treasure trove of information that can help you improve your search engine rankings and conversion rate. It is a free tool that shows you how much traffic you’re getting, where the traffic is from, what devices users are using, and so much more.
Armed with the information Google Analytics provides, you can optimise your site and provide information that users want.
For example, you can use data from Google Analytics to plan your content calendar. You can look at the blog posts that are receiving a lot of traffic and create content about the same topics.
Go to your Google Analytics dashboard. Click on Behavior and go to Overview. Once you’ve clicked Overview, scroll to the bottom of the page and select View Full Report. You will see which of your posts and pages have received the most traffic and which ones users truly pay attention to.
The Page Views column tells you how many times a page or post was viewed. The Unique Page Views column tells you how many times a page or post was viewed by individual users. Average Time on Page tells you how long most users stayed on the page before clicking on something else. Bounce Rate tells you how the percentage of users who left your website before clicking on another page.
You can gauge user interest based on all these different factors. If a post received a lot of page views and users stayed for a long time, it means they liked what they were seeing.
Examine that piece of content to determine how you could replicate its success in the future. What was the page or blog post about? How did you format your content? Could you possibly write more about this topic in a future blog post or webpage?

Find broken links.
Broken links are links that no longer work. Maybe the page you’re linking to changed its URL or no longer exists. There are plenty of scenarios that could result in broken links.
They could negatively affect your website’s search engine rankings. When search engines crawl through your site, they’ll stop when they encounter broken links. This may result in some of your pages failing to get indexed.
Finding broken links may sound tiresome, but there are plenty of free tools available that will automatically look for them. Dead Link Checker is one such tool.
Once you go to the site, enter your website URL and click Check. It will scan the entire website looking for broken links. Click on Full Report after it finishes scanning. You’ll see the broken links on your website and the pages they’re on. You can then start replacing them with links that work.
SEO isn’t just a one-time thing that you put all your effort into. It’s a long-term process that you need to constantly work on. Some steps may require professional assistance, but there are aspects that you can accomplish whenever you have some time to spare.
