Defence Care

Defence Care, as part of RSL NSW, is a not-for-profit organisation that assists members of the Australian Defence Force and their families in time of need. Both current and ex-service men and women are helped through times of injury, illness or other crises which have occurred during or after their service.

Defence Care assist their service members with entitlements, financial assistance in times of need, bereavement counselling, community support, transitioning to civilian life and disaster assistance.

The Problem

Being part of RSL NSW meant that Defence Care did not have their own dedicated website or branding. This resulted in a problem promoting their good works to the public and effectively, encouraging people to donate to the organisation.

To assess the need for a separate website, Cornerstone Digital examined the current traffic to the RSL website and then discussed the need for a separate Defence Care website.

The Problem

The Solution

Cornerstone Digital worked alongside another branding company who designed and created all of the branding for the new website. This gave a professional and streamlined, yet friendly feel to the website. Once the branding was completed, Cornerstone Digital then built a responsive website – enabling users to easily access the new website on their mobile phones and iPads.

Cornerstone Digital created wireframes to preview how the site would display responsively on different mobile devises – these were then built out. The site was built using Adobe Business Catalyst as the CMS so the client could update their own content. Search engine optimisation (SEO) was included in the website to increase the amount of traffic and the number of donation conversions on the new website.


Key Results

Defence Care now have a new, separate website which clearly identifies their role within the RSL NSW and is no longer lost within the parent company’s website. Their website now works across all mobile devices, has a friendly but professional feel – and this has all lead to a natural increase in site conversions.

They have quickly become a go-to site for advice and help with a 73% increase in new visitors arriving each month and a steady rise of 23% in search engine traffic in the past six months. Their online donations have skyrocketed 87% higher as well.
